Surface Triangulation

For motion tracking based on shape properties, we assume that the endocardial-epicardial surfaces over the cardiac cycle have been detected at the start of the process. Although there are methods which estimate the surface and/or its shape directly from 3D images[44][37][32][26][19][14], they need extremely high quality image data to produce reasonable results. Due to the fact that it remains difficult to extract the LV accurately and reproducibly by automated means from 4D cardiac data directly, we currently feel it is more appropriate to segment the LV wall slice by slice, isolating the endocardium and the epicadium, and then tessellate the surface from the 2D contour stack. From the surface tessellation, differential properties of the surface can be inferred.
